| Breaking Dawn: Done, and now I wish I could purge my memory. |

r2trashcan put it beautifully when she said that Breaking Dawn is "a burning pile of crap." It wasn't even like reading bad fanfiction because at least some bad fanfiction is entertaining to read in its badness. Breaking Dawn was just one long trip down Masochisticheadbashing Lane, except for the middle part of the book from Jacob's perspective which was actually occasionally entertaining. But generally speaking, this book was the worst book I've read in a long, long, long time, crammed chock-full of more implausibilities, improbabilities, Mary Sues, stupidity, idiocy, and disturbing, creepy crap.
Mind you, the other books weren't exactly stellar books either. At least Twilight was moderately entertaining and fun to make fun of, the first and the best. New Moon and Eclipse were less entertaining because it started to get old and everyone started getting even stupider. But Breaking Dawn makes the other three books shine like paragons of high literature in comparison.
Anyway, I'm going to go to bed now and tomorrow I may start reading Havemercy, which I have on various accounts of good authority to be an excellent book. |

| | jubilant | ] | Happy happy birthday, kangaru! You dog, you, Sirius, mate, I know what you're doing frolicking overseas, and let me tell you it's not on, simply not on. I mean, leading on all those girls and guys and frolicking on beaches and such and without me? Cruel, Padfoot, simply cruel. But I suppose I shall forgive you just for today, this single day, this day alone. YOU HEAR? YOU BETTER LIVE IT UP! |

| | triumphant | ] | What do you do when you want your own Official Code Geass Lancelot Key USB Drive but don't want to spend $86+ to buy it?
Make your own crappy budget version out of Super Sculpey, of course!
( Click for badly-lighted pictures of progress and completion. )
Several days' worth of labor results in something that is shiny and I'm moderately pleased with. I'll be sure to keep the key on hand so that if I ever see a Lancelot Knightmare Frame gunning down the street or left unattended, I can hop in and pilot it away--provided I don't crash or accidentally eject or self-destruct. Who knows, maybe I'll be a genius pilot like Marianne. |

| | omg | ] | Omg that was an earthquake awakening me from my beauty sleep, a shock and then a wave, with much shaking. Word is currently that it's 5.6-8 or some such. It knocked down my mom's toys! And made the windows rattle! And made my badly-stacked books slide partway down my overloaded desk!
But otherwise it seems everything else is okay. Also there was a little aftershock right now, mostly just a rattle of the windows. |

| Iron Man |

| | pleased | ] | Iron Man was a good movie, much better than I was expecting considering that when I saw the trailers, I was pretty meh and thought the main dude to be an unlikeable schmoe. He was actually pretty good, I say, though I do find I forgive theatrical people much if they are funny or witty.
And his suit was shiny.
I wonder when we will move on to the next framing of ______ people as terrorists. You know, it used to be the Nazis, and then the Russians, and now it's Middle Easterns--that sort of thing. And if we go back far enough, it's those damn redcoats. Damn you, redcoats!
Afterward, we ate ice cream. Ben & Jerry's ONE Cheesecake Brownie (or whatever it's called) ice cream is pretty delicious--cheesecake ice cream filled with cheesecake brownie chunks. That's a lotta cheesecake but it sure is tasty. And there can be few other signs that you're an adult when you tell your mom, "Let's have ice cream even though we should eat dinner now," and she says, "Okay." |

| Typing and Angel's Egg |

Unrelated to the above, I remember reading about Mamoru Oshii's anime called Angel's Egg several years ago and how it had never been released for US consumption. Today I happened to recall the title and lo, the entirety of the movie can be found upon Youtube.
Like most of Oshii's works, it's all philosophical and majorly metaphorical and stuff. It's probably more metaphorical than most of the rest of his stuff I've seen, like Ghost in the Shell and definitely more than Patlabor. Anyway, basically there's this little girl who guards an egg and gathers water in bottles in this post-apocalyptic-ish world, and there's this guy who, in some very subtle imagery, has bandages on his hands and totes around a giant cross over his shoulders everywhere. They meet and...yeah, okay, the movie is as chock-full of metaphor as the lovechild of Utena and James Joyce's Ulysses.
And when I finished watching it, I realized with mingled horror and bemusement that while I make no claims to understanding the movie, my m4d haxX0rz English skillz and analytical processes conspire to...well...MAKE INTERPRETATIONS OF THINGS THAT I WOULDN'T HAVE MADE BEFORE.
( Spoilery analysis and interpretation of possible metaphors ensues. )
Um, yes. And there are a lot more issues and metaphors and stuff that I ain't even gotten a chance to begin to maybe think through yet. It was an interesting film, definitely artsy, very metaphorical, and potentially brain-hurty-ing. WTF, mate. |
